1. Onion Pakora :
One of the common and most savored snack onion pakoras is a delight to have during the rainy season. It’s a deep-fried snack made up of onion, gram flour, basic Indian spices and salt that can be had alongside a hot cup of aromatic masala chai.

Ingredients :
- 2 thinly sliced onions,
- 1-inch finely chopped ginger,
- 2 finely chopped green chili,
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder / red chili powder
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 cup gram flour
- ¼ tsp ajwain
- Pinch of Hing
- ½ tsp salt
Method to Prepare:
- In a large mixing bowl, add 2 thinly sliced onions, ginger, green chili, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp red chili powder, ¼ tsp ajwain and a pinch of hing. Also add 1 cup gram flour, 2 tbsp rice flour, and ½ tsp salt.
- Mix all the ingredients well and squeeze the onions. Combine it till the dough is formed.
- Now drop the pakora dough into the hot oil. Fry the pakora on a medium flame till it turns golden brown and crispy.
Enjoy the onion pakora with tomato ketchup or with a sip of masala chai.
2. Moong Dal Samosa :

For Samosa Covering :
- 2 cups sifted refined flour
- 2 tbsp oil
- cold water to knead
- 1 tsp salt
For Filling :
- 3 cups moong dal (soaked)
- 2 tbsp powdered fennel seeds
- 1 1/2 tsp mango powder
- 3 tsp red chili powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 3 tsp garam masala
- 1/8 tsp asafoetida
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Method to Prepare
Covering :
- In a mixing bowl, add flour, oil, and salt.
- Next add water and knead into a stiff dough. Keep it aside for around 15 minutes.
- Make smooth balls out of the dough and roll it into thin rounds. Cut it into halves.
- Now take one half, wet the edges, and fold it to form a conical shape.
Filling :
- Grind the moong dal coarsely into a grinder.
- In a frying pan, add 2 tablespoons of oil, cumin seeds, and asafoetida.
- After it begins to splutter, add moong dal and all the ingredients i.e. powdered fennel seeds, mango powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala.
- Sauté the mixture in a low flame until fried.
- After frying the mixture well, keep it aside and let it cool off.
Samosa :
- To make samosa add the moong dal filling into the conical shaped covering and press the bottom of the covering to seal it completely.
- Lastly, pour the samosa into a hot oil pan and fry it in a lower flame until brown.
3. Masala Sweet Corn Chaat :
This chaat is a tangy, flavorful, and quick snack to make. It’s an ideal light evening snack that will warm you up on a rainy day. Here’s the recipe,
Ingredients :
- 2 cups boiled sweet corn
- 1 tsp butter
- 1/2tsp black pepper
- 1/2tsp chili flakes
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of garam masala
- Salt to taste
Method for Preparation:
- Wash the corn with water thoroughly.
- In a frying pan, melt the butter and add sweet corn, black pepper, chili flakes, salt, and garam masala.
- Lastly, squeeze in some lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well. Sauté if for a few minutes.
- Serve hot.
